Heartbeat

Today we got to hear the heartbeat for the first time. It was so neat to hear the beating of the baby's heart. It was music to our ears and gave me goose-bumps. Everything is going well and we'll be back to the Dr. next month. At the end of July we get to find out if it's a boy or girl, I can't wait. Toby thinks it's a girl, I'm not sure. I can't wait to feel those first flutters of the baby moving.

Is that normal?

So last night I had some spotting, which made me really nervous. I called my Dr. and she assured me that it was probably normal and some women experience spotting during their pregnancy but to call the office tomorrow when they open to do an ultrasound. That night I couldn't sleep, although Toby assured me that everything was fine, I kept having nightmares, and I would just repeat over and over in my head "please don't let me loose this baby." 9 am couldn't come quick enough, I was watching the clock with the phone in my hand and when 9am came I made an appointment to go in at 11:30. I hadn't had any more spotting so I was feeling much better about things and really thinking it was probably nothing. When I got in to Dr.'s office she first tried to listen to the heartbeat but couldn't find it. Then she examined me which caused more bleeding, this made me really nervous. The Dr. felt the spotting was normal from the exam BUT she wanted to do an ultrasound to make sure. So I move into the room with the ultrasound machine (by this time Toby had arrived & I needed him more than anything). The Dr. did an external ultrasound and nothing showed up, Toby and I just kept looking at the screen afraid to look at the Dr. She then says I'm going to try the internal ultrasound and as she began she moved the screen so that only she could see it. Now I'm scared and I'm so glad Toby's right by my side rubbing my arm letting me know it will be fine. Just as soon as the Dr. does the internal ultrasound she says "there's a nice big baby" and she turns the screen. As I look up at this beautiful growing baby, I immediately burst into tears. Just knowing that everything is fine and nothing is wrong, after all that worrying, was a relief. This baby truly is our miracle baby.
I think our Dr. let us have a little more time than usual to watch our baby move around on the ultrasound which was amazing; words can't describe how we felt.

The changes so far

So I have been very fortunate to have gone through the whole first trimester without any morning sickness. The only things that I've had to deal with is extreme exhaustion and ravenous hunger. I've learned quickly that I need to keep crackers or granola bars with me for when the hunger kicks in. I'm so used to eating three main meals in a day with dinner being the biggest meal but since I've been pregnant I realized this doesn't work...I'm starving! So I eat smaller meals and healthy snacks more frequently throughout the day.
My clothes are starting to fit snug but I'm not quite big enough to wear maternity clothes. It's like I'm in that in between stage, I feel people looking at me and I picture them thinking is she just getting fat or is she pregnant? Luckily the style right now is loose fitting tops.
